Perry was born on July 25, 1968 in Chicago In Illinois, she was the child of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mother in each of the two shows she starred in on Roseanne. Perry did not decide to pursue acting as a career until after she had reached adulthood, as her parents were afraid of the negative impact stress might have. Perry was shy in high-school and did not act. She began acting at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry moved to New York, where she was offered small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Homesickness then led Perry her back home California which was where theatre jobs were in demand. She performed on Broadway as a part of The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. Kevin McKidd, her father Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie with her in the year 2015. Perry was a part of the drama's nine episodes from 2016 on the ABC drama The Family. In 2017, Perry had an appearance on ABC's political thriller Scandal alongside her father. In addition, she played in the role of a younger Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - an CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. Despite her family link to the character, she was offered the role via an audition.
